Naloxone nasal spray will soon be available for free in some Ontario pharmacies.

The Ontario government announced that NARCAN (naloxone) Nasal Spray will be free to all Ontarians with an OHIP card through participating pharmacies.

It is part of the Ontario Naloxone Pharmacy Program (ONPP).

Pharmicist Mark Barnes says that the nasal spray is much easier than the injectible Naloxone dosage.

The nasal spray is the first and only needle-free formulation of naloxone for the emergency treatment of a known or suspected opioid overdose.

It does not require assembly or any specialized medical training.

Timing for the release of the Naloxone to pharmacies is still to be determined, but it could be as early as the end of March.
