Innisfil's Uber Transit experiment seems to be going well.

A staff report pegs total costs after 2 months at just over $26,000, while the cost for two buses to run on a fixed route would have run the town over $600,000 by now.

All ages have been taking advantage of the inexpensive transit system alternative.

According to Innisfil Future Planner, Madeline Snow, it has made the town more accessible to those who once felt it wasn't.

The staff report also say Innisfil will be eligible for up to $75,000 in provincial gas tax funding but the service will have to have been in effect for a full year before they can get their hands on the cash

Snow says if you have not used the service or the app before you can do so for free until the end of the year.

Uber is offering up to $20 in free service for a first time rider.
