The Ontario Provincial Police have wrapped up their Festive RIDE Campaign.

OPP say, across Ontario from November 24th to January 2nd, more than 9,800 drivers were stopped.

Of those, 587 were charged with impaired and 366 drivers were issued a warn range suspensions and had their driver's licence suspended.

Of the 587 drivers arrested, 29 of those were charged with drug impairment.

Sgt Kerry Schimdt says just because the holidays are over, that doesn't mean the spot checks are done

Sgt Schmidt also says 44 people were killed on Ontario roads in collisions involving alcohol and drugs.

He said other factors also come into play when it comes to road fatalities in Ontario


The public is reminded to call 9-1-1 if they suspect a driver is impaired.
